“ MICROADVENTURE -5- ”
BREAKFAST AT SEVEN BELOW ZERO

Without a doubt, I will always remember the first days of January 2021 as the best in terms of quality and quantity of snow in the Cantabrian Mountains since I can remember.

So on the morning of January 8th, in the company of my brother David, we decided to go see the sunrise and split up for a while.

So on the morning of January 8th, in the company of my brother David, we decided to go see the sunrise and split up for a while.

We arrived at the parking lot, completely covered by snow, when the black sky was beginning to turn blue. The thermometer showed -7ºC, it would be cold, but we had one very important thing in our favor, there was no wind. And that predicted that it would be a very pleasant morning.

We changed and started walking while the waning moon watched us. We advanced slowly since opening tracks on half a meter of fresh snow is not an easy task, but with the excitement of seeing so much beauty together, we did not feel the cold or the effort.

The silence was only broken by the sound of our splitboards on the snow. We were like in a state of meditation in which we found ourselves absorbing everything around us and charging ourselves with its energy.

When we reached the top of the first big hill, we couldn’t help but shout in admiration when we saw the landscape in front of us.

We continued advancing while the first rays of the sun began to appear timidly behind the mountains, dyeing the peaks first in incredible pink colors that gradually turned orange…

The texture created by the perfect snow crystals that were there reflected the light and made them sparkle like diamonds.

When we arrived at the place with the best views of the entire valley, we sat down, took out our breakfast and dedicated ourselves to contemplating everything in front of us.

I think that I have rarely enjoyed a breakfast as tasty as this one… and as I always say, in these places everything tastes better 😉
